Darren R. Stevenson
President and CEO, Director

Mr. Stevenson is a senior oil and gas executive with experience in technology, corporate turnarounds and mergers and acquisitions. He brings to Bighorn Petroleum the leadership and practical skills required to achieve significant growth in the oil and gas business.

Prior to joining Bighorn Petroleum Ltd., Mr. Stevenson spent four years in The Hague and Amsterdam with Royal Dutch Shell PLC’s consultancy business, Shell Global Solutions. Serving as a business development director, he led a team in technology and commercial business development in support of Shell’s business pursuits in Europe, Middle East and Russia.

Mr. Stevenson attended Chemical Engineering at the University of British Columbia and over the past 15 years has held a variety of technical and commercial roles in the oil and gas industry including reservoir and process engineering, refinery operations and some entrepreneurial pursuits in technology transfer for fuel cells, software development and aviation. Darren brings a proven track record that combines expertise in oil and gas technology, corporate acquisitions and sustainable business development. He has worked for companies such as Syncrude Canada, Shell Canada and the University of British Columbia Industry Liaison Office.

 


Farrokh Elmieh

Farrock is a business executive, entrepreneur and engineer and brings to the Bighorn management team over 35 years of experience in oil and gas, engineering and mineral exploration sectors. He was a founder, director and CEO of Zarcan International Resources, the predecessor to Bighorn Petroleum Ltd.

For the past ten years he has been active in Canada serving as the Founder, president and CEO of EMS Technology Inc. which is a Vancouver-based investment and holding company focused on commodities trading. He also served from 1997 to 2000 as the VP, Manufacturing Development at Martec Recycling Corporation (www.martec.ca) which is a pavement recycling company. He holds a M.Phil in Mechanical Engineering (Fluid mechanics) from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom (1974).

 


Michael Kurtanjek
Advisor to President

Mr. Kurtanjek has been self-employed with Grosvenor Capital Limited since 1995. Prior to that time, he was employed by Credit Lyonnais, James Capel & Co. and Prudential Assurance Company as a Fund Manager and Investment Banker. Mr. Kurtanjek was the manager of the Natural Resources Group of The British Sulphur Corporation where he managed several World Bank sponsored projects focused on oil and gas in several North African and Middle Eastern countries.

Most recently Mr. Kurtanjek has been involved in major projects in Chile, USA, and the United Kingdom

 


Mehran Farmanara
CA, CS, B.Finan (Hons)
Finance & Accounting Advisor

Mr. Farmanara provides a wide range of services to Bighorn Petroleum including taxation, consulting, preparation of annual and quarterly financial statements for the company auditors, preparation of quarterly and annual MD&A, acquisition due diligence and other business services.

He obtained his CA designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC in 1984 and his CS designation from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Canada in 1988. Previoulsy he received his CA designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Walesin 1980.

He has worked for several companies over the past 35 years including serving as a CEO and CFO of Chancellor Reinsurance Company of Canada, CFO of The Chancellor Group Ltd. and over  12 years with Coopers & Lybrand in both England and  Vancouver.

 


Thom Bainbridge
Advisor Geological Engineering

Mr. Bainbridge,  BASc, P.Geol., is President and Owner of Wakanda Resources Limited, a private Alberta Company incorporated in 1981 which has historically been engaged in several aspects of the oil and gas and mineral exploration industry. He has written numerous geological and engineering reports to be submitted to the Securities Commissions of British Columbia, Manitoba, Alberta and Ontario. These reports were included within the Statement of Material Facts used by various clients in applications to these Security Commissions. He has acted as geological and exploration consultant to various oil companies within Canada for regional project work. These companies have included Alberta Energy Company, Blue Range Resource Corp., Luscar Limited, Encal Energy Ltd., Agassiz Resources Limited, Dynamar Energy Limited, Westar Petroleum Limited, Ultramar Oil Limited, Mohawk Oil and Wintershall Oil Limited, to name a few. Mr. Bainbridge has undertaken geological studies throughout Canada, the United States, Australia and France for these clients. 

He graduated in 1973 with Honours in Geological Engineering from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario Canada. He is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) and the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG).
